Admin/Editor Break-Out: Pivot Table Demonstration
Tom McClung, Reports Specialist
ScholarOne, Inc.
Track: Publishers
Time: 4:00 – 4:30, May 7th
Editorial offices have varying reporting needs. Through the data export capability in Manuscript Central, Journal Administrators can import large sets of data to Excel. With Excel’s built-in pivot table feature, you can look at your journal data in a completely new way. A pivot table is a powerful data summarization tool that can automatically sort, count, and total data stored in a spreadsheet and create a second table displaying the summarized data. Pivot tables are also useful to quickly create crosstabs. The user sets up and changes the summary's structure by dragging-and-dropping fields graphically. This "rotation" or pivoting of the summary table gives the concept its name. This session will provide an overview of pivot tables and how they can be used with data from Manuscript Central.

Editors and editorial offices face many challenges in today’s climate of increasing pressures, workloads and expectations. Submissions are increasing dramatically. What are these and how should they be handled? Misconduct in research and publication is becoming more common and many journals are coming across cases, perhaps not knowing how to deal with them.
